I have a love of all things handmade. There really is something special about a piece that so much time, care and attention was devoted to.
My mother taught me how to knit when I was about 9 years old - I guess she could be credited to my craftiness. She taught me both the knit stitch as well as the purl stitch, how to cast on and bind off - all of the basics. Since then I've knitted on and off throughout childhood and onto adulthood marvelling at what can be created with some simple yarn.
Over the years my knitting has ebbed and flowed, usually dependent on the arrival of winter and the desire for a cozy new scarf. However, with the arrival of my first nephew last July, I've had a renewed interest in knitting. A whole new spectrum of knitty goodness opened up. Visions of cozy baby blankets, apple hats, sweaters and knit baby legs passed through my head. This coupled with the fantastic knitting kit my Aunt Mary sent me for Christmas has inspired me to share my knitting with others.
Many friends are expecting little ones over the next few months, and I look forward to sending off my handmade items to adorn their little heads. I've also decided to work my way towards opening an www.etsy.com shop - and thus the Pitter Patter Knits by Ashley blog is born. This blog will save my personal blog from being inundated with my knitting updates, as well as allow me to share new knitting resources that I've found, new patterns or skills to share. And finally, it will allow me to link my knitting projects with my future etsy shop. I can't wait for this new journey to begin!
